I'm a total newbie. What should I know?

Dance Revolution is a fun, beginner friendly environment. We have two great options for those of you who are new to Latin dance or unfamiliar with NY style salsa, our Intro to Latin dance bootcamp Wednesdays from 7-8pm and our level 1 drop-in salsa lessons Saturdays from 7-8pm. If those times don't work with your schedule, please get in touch with us to schedule a private lesson. You can pay with cash or check at the door. We recommend attending at least 4 of our beginner classes before trying level 2. Dancing works up a sweat so please dress accordingly and bring a water bottle with you which you can refill at our drinking fountain. If you have questions don’t hesitate to ask. We’re here to help!

What styles of dance do you teach?

We focus mainly on Latin dances… salsa, mambo, bachata, merengue, cha cha, casino, rueda de casino, pachanga, etc.

What style of salsa do you teach?

In our drop-in lessons on Saturdays we teach NY style salsa aka mambo and sometimes referred to as dancing On2 since we change direction on the second step and second beat in the music. It’s a smooth, linear style that comes from NY, but is danced by most advanced dancers all over the world.

Do I need to bring a partner?

No need to bring a partner. We switch partners during class so we all get to dance with each other. Every person you dance with has a unique style and point of view so the more people you practice with, the more you learn!

If I bring a partner, do we have to switch?

In over 15 years of teaching, we’ve found it very helpful to dance with different partners. Especially if you’re both beginners, it’s easy to get frustrated with each other when things go wrong. It can be good to dance with more experienced dancers who can offer helpful tips. But if you’re not comfortable switching partners, we respect your choice. Whatever is best for you.

What should I wear?

Whatever you’re comfortable dancing in. Keep in mind you will be moving and exercising so be prepared to sweat.

Do I need special dance shoes?

There are many types of dance shoes that work well, like jazz, Latin, and ballroom dance shoes, but anything with a smooth sole is good. If it’s wet outside, please bring a clean, dry pair of shoes to dance in or dance in your socks. We don’t want to make a bunch of puddles on the dance floor.

Where should I park?

Street parking is free after 6pm so if you see a spot on the street, grab it! If not, there are parking structures and parking lots one block in any direction from the Phoenix Center.

How do I redeem my Groupon?

If you’d like to attend our drop-in classes, just show up 5-10 minutes early and we can scan your groupon directly from your phone or you can print it out and bring it with you. If you’d prefer to join one of our bootcamps, send us a message or email ahead of time and we’ll get you signed up. The Groupon is valid for any of our group classes.

Do you accept credit/debit cards?

Not yet. That’s our next project. But for now, please bring cash or check.
